A Life that Still Shines

One invitation on a doorstep changed a life - and through her, countless others have met Jesus.

“Can you bring me three more study courses? I won another lady to the Lord last night.”

There are no sweeter words to a missionary’s ears. And those words came from Blanca, who has been faithfully leading others to Christ for more than 35 years.

Blanca first came to church after finding a gospel tract and invitation on her doorstep. Although she had always been religious and tried to live a good life, she didn’t truly know Jesus. The night she met Him, her life was forever changed. Her love for Christ has only grown deeper through the years.

Soon after, Blanca invited her husband to church, and he too accepted Christ. His transformation was dramatic — from an alcoholic bartender to pastor of our first church plant in Port Limón. They served faithfully until her husband passed away at just 36 years old.

As a young widow raising four children, Blanca returned to San Ramón and began working as a seamstress. She used her home as a place of ministry, sharing the gospel with customers and neighbors. Many came to faith through her quiet, steady witness. She also started Bible Clubs in some of the poorest areas, where countless children met Jesus — several of whom are now pastors and church planters.

Today, Blanca is still winning souls, discipling believers, and bringing new people into church. When asked to sing in a ladies’ group, she smiled and said, “I don’t hear well enough to follow the new songs.” The pastor’s wife replied, “That’s fine — you keep bringing people to church, and we’ll sing!”

Wherever she goes, Blanca is a blessing — a living example of a faithful worker for the Lord. We may never know this side of Heaven how many lives have been changed because one woman responded to a simple invitation left on her doorstep.
